What is Arthrosamid®?

Arthrosamid® is a new type of treatment for knee osteoarthritis being offered from our clinic in Langham, Colchester. It is a non-biodegradable hydrogel that is injected into the knee to cushion the joint and relieve pain.

How does it work?

Arthrosamid® integrates into the synovium of the inner joint capsule creating a cushion-like effect. It works by restoring viscosity within the synovial fluid which relieves pain and lubricates the joint, decreasing stiffness, and improving movement

Is it effective?

In clinical trials, patients reported a reduction in their pain levels by Week 4 after their injection. The reduction in pain was sustained over 156 weeks. As Arthrosamid® is a relatively new treatment option, trials will continue to follow patients for 5 years.

Patient Testimonial

We are delighted to be able share some feedback from one of our lovely Arthrosamid® patients. Mr E was one of the first in line when we rolled out this new and exciting treatment for knee osteoarthritis in October 2023. He has since had both knees injected and is starting to see some exciting results.

I would like to tell everyone that visits your website, that I am absolutely delighted with the treatment I have received.

I had so much pain in my knees and the Doctor referred me to the NHS waiting list. The x-rays showed there was no cartilage left and both joints were grating- you could hear the grating noise and it was debilitating. I would get a sudden pain that would virtually take me off my feet, the pain would wake me in the night, and all round I was pretty miserable.

I was researching on the internet and came across Arthrosamid
®. It’s not available on the NHS and it’s very new to the UK. I read up on it via the internet a lot and then luckily found Joseph as a very skilled physiotherapist and injection specialist and I can get to his clinic in 20 minutes. I had the first knee done in November, and the second a month later. Don’t expect miracles in the first two to three weeks but after a month I became virtually pain free except for really cold days, and day by day it’s getting better all the time!

Consider this against the highly intrusive joint replacement- considering the pain, and risk of infection… Arthrosamid
®, comes out a real winner. I could not find any downside to this at all; I have got Parkinson’s which affects my balance, so for me at 78 it was a no-brainer. You receive a local anaesthetic and apart from that there is no pain associated with this procedure and you will walk away after half an hour.  Simple.
